Deion Sanders has been helping former NFL stars get a foot into the coaching side of things. As a result, the Colorado Buffaloes coaching staff is now full of Pro Football Hall of Famers and NFL stars of every kind.
For 2024, Sports Illustrated estimated that Colorado had 127 years of combined NFL experience on the coaching staff.
It just not only the opportunities he has opened for others at Colorado, but just his mere example of being a former player coaching, that has allowed other former players to become coaches.
Former Super Bowl and now Delaware State coach DeSean Jackson said as much on a recent episode of the ‘All Facts No Brakes’ podcast:
“I sat back and really didn’t really know my next steps, man… I really, the past two years, sat back and didn’t really know what to do after retirement.”
“Coach Prime, man, I can’t stress enough about how he’s opened doors up for guys like myself,” he added.

Jackson spent a season (2024) as the offensive coordinator of Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, California.
Urban Meyer on Deion Sanders’ unpredictable third season at Colorado
Urban Meyer spoke about Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes on Wednesday’s episode of “The Triple Option” podcast. He believes that Coach Prime will be held to a higher standard this season, but that it’s very difficult to predict how things will go.
“I do because he set a standard. You know, once you hit a nine-win [season], it’s like, okay, the crowd will probably start to thin out if they start losing, and then you got some issues,” Meyer said. (47:50)
Meyer highlighted the fact that the program has been one of the most popular in college football over the last two seasons and that they will likely remain a focus of attention moving forward.
However, in terms of predicting how the season will go, it is difficult to know, considering they lost key pieces like Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders to the NFL Draft in 2025. It’s safe to say that Colorado doesn’t have players of that caliber in its roster at the moment. Kaidon Salter is definitely a step down at quarterback for the Buffaloes.
“This would be completely different. They don’t have the transfer portal, the 40 guys, it’s much less … but we got to see,” Meyer added.
Colorado had its first winning season since 2016 last year, and they made their first bowl appearance since 2020. While their 9-4 record was impressive, Deion Sanders will want to get Colorado its first bowl victory since 2004 this season.
