ESPN Analyst Delivers Harsh Verdict on Deion Sanders’ Colorado Amid Star Departures

Head coach Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes took a big step forward last season. After only winning four games in Coach Prime’s first season with the team, the Buffaloes jumped up to nine wins last year. However, progress is not always linear, and this season could be a step back for the Buffaloes.

On Wednesday, on a new episode of the “College GameDay Podcast,” ESPN analyst Rece Davis spoke about the harsh reality for Colorado this season. He spoke about that with stars like Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders no longer on the team, the Buffaloes could be in for a bit of a rebuild.

“Colorado last year was very close to playing for the conference championship,” Rece Davis said (Timestamp 26:05). “There was a point in time late in the season that I thought that they were the best team in the Big 12. They kind of got it handed to them late. Now, it’s a big change, a big turnover, a bit of a rebuild for Deion Sanders with Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders being gone, among others. And then Deion is also recovering.

“The Buffs said when he returned, it was like a breath of fresh air. So I mean, people have questioned his commitment. “Was he just there for Shedeur?” And the answer appears to be no. Colorado has some skill. They may be a little stronger in some areas than they’ve been the last couple of years, but waiting on the quarterback, Kaidon Salter, the transfer from Liberty, is a proven guy. And of course, Julian “Juju” Lewis is a highly touted guy who most believe will be a star at some point.”

Deion Sanders Could Use Two Quarterbacks at the Start of the Season

Heading into the season, the biggest question mark for Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes is the quarterback situation. With Shedeur Sanders starting his NFL career with the Cleveland Browns, the Buffaloes brought in two QBs to compete for the job: Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter and five-star recruit Julian Lewis.

According to a report from insider Pete Nakos, Colorado could use both quarterbacks in a platoon-style setup, at least to start the season. Coach Prime might let the quarterback battle continue into the season before naming his starting QB.
