Elite EDGE Richard Wesley Reveals How One School Is Recruiting Him ‘Way Harder’ Than Everyone

Five-star EDGE rusher Richard Wesley is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after players in the 2026 recruiting class. After reclassifying from 2027, the California native has skyrocketed in the rankings, now sitting at No. 3 among EDGE defenders and No. 20 overall, according to the 247Sports Composite.

As top programs like Ohio State, Texas, Texas A&M, and USC battle for his commitment, one school has emerged as the clear front-runner.

Richard Wesley Says One School Is Dominating His Recruitment

Wesley made it known that the Oregon Ducks are setting themselves apart from the competition, and not by a small margin.

“I love the feeling there and I love everything there.”

That connection isn’t just surface-level. Wesley and his family were in Eugene for Oregon’s spring game, and the visit made a lasting impression. His father, Jonathan Wesley, spoke highly of the experience, pointing out the coaching staff’s focus on development and how the Ducks see Richard fitting into their defensive system.

“They see him as the next guy in that Matayo Uiagalelei role,” Jonathan told On3. “It’s a great fit.”

Oregon’s push for Wesley appears to be paying off. On3’s Steve Wiltfong recently placed a prediction for Wesley to choose the Ducks over his other suitors. While Oregon currently ranks No. 19 in the 2026 team recruiting standings, securing a commitment from Wesley would be a major statement and a potential momentum-changer.

Wesley’s profile has drawn comparisons to former Oregon standout Kayvon Thibodeaux, but some believe Wesley is ahead of Thibodeaux at the same stage. He’s already shown elite traits: an explosive first step, powerful hands, strong run defense, and a relentless motor. Add in his weight-room work ethic and multi-sport background, and you’ve got one of the highest ceilings of any player out West.

Wesley’s admiration for Oregon is grounded in how much effort the staff has put into building the relationship. It’s not just about hype, it’s about fit, opportunity, and trust.

With Georgia gaining momentum elsewhere with offensive line prospect Jackson Cantwell, Oregon appears to be locking in on Wesley as their potential cornerstone for the 2026 defensive class.

If the Ducks can close the deal, they’ll not only land one of the best pass rushers in the nation, they’ll send a message to every other elite recruit on the board.
