‘Texas Is Pushing Buttons’ – Analyst Warns of EDGE Chaos as Longhorns Lose 6’4″, 230-Pound Recruit to Clemson

Texas Longhorns’ recruiting efforts took a beating after EDGE Dre Quinn committed to the Clemson Tigers on Thursday. The 6’4, 230-pounder out of Buford, Georgia, visited Clemson late March.

Georgia, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, and Tennessee were also in the mix to land Quinn. However, former Texas assistant and current defensive ends coach of the Tigers, Chris Rumph, emerged as the winner in his recruitment.

On Thursday, analyst Cody Carpentier issued a warning that as far as recruitments are concerned, Texas will become even more alert in the coming days.

“So Texas is pushing buttons,” Carpentier said on YouTube channel ‘Orangebloods’ (1:23). “Xavier Griffin was in last weekend and they got another big weekend ahead.”

After losing Quinn to Clemson, the Longhorns will shift their focus to other edge prospects. They hosted Temple’s Jamarion Carlton earlier this month. Last weekend, they received a visit from IMG Academy product Jake Kreul. Moreover, two recruits have their visits scheduled to Austin this month: Sierra Canyon’s Richard Wesley and Pensacola Catholic’s Trenton Henderson.

Let’s see if Steve Sarkisian’s program scores at least one commitment out of these visits.

Dre Quinn Shares His Thoughts on Clemson Commitment After Surprise Texas Snub

As per On3 Industry Ranking, Dre Quinn is the 274th overall player in the nation, 30th in his position, and 31st in his state of Georgia. His commitment to Clemson surprised many because earlier, On3 had given Texas an 87.7% chance to secure his services. Meanwhile, Clemson was only at 1.8%.

Quinn transferred from Greater Atlanta Christian School to powerhouse Buford High last season. Since then, he had been on the radar of Clemson defensive ends coach Chris Rumph and head coach Dabo Swinney. They even made an offer to him last fall. Rumph visited his home on January 21, and since then, Quinn had been in touch with the program.

“It was great,” Quinn said of Rumph’s visit (via Clemson Sports Talk). “I got to sit down with him and my parents and talk about different things — such as how Clemson is a good fit for me.”

He thanked coaches and other programs who made an offer to him before he announced his college decision on Thursday.

“I want to thank all the coaches, the colleges that have offered me, all the coaches who’ve recruited me and believed in me from the start, but first off, I want to thank God for blessing me with this opportunity today, because without him, I’m nothing. After a lot of prayer and thought and talks with my parents, I want to commit to Clemson University,” Quinn added.

Quinn belongs to the Class of 2026, and it remains to be seen if he stays committed or whether Texas can flip him before his signing.
