Eddie George Hired at Bowling Green: Are the Falcons Positioned for Long-Term Success?

Former Heisman-winning running back Eddie George has been hired as the next head coach for the Bowling Green Falcons.

Eddie George, who won the Heisman with the Ohio State Buckeyes in 1995, was announced as the next head coach for the Bowling Green Falcons.

Is Bowling Green Set Up For Long-Term Success Under Eddie George?

George’s playing resume speaks for itself, but his coaching record is also impressive, especially considering what he did with Tennessee State at the FCS level. In his four seasons with the Tigers, George went 24-20, completely turning the program around.

As a coach, George will bring a winning culture to Bowling Green, much like we’ve seen in Colorado with Deion Sanders, another Heisman-winning college coach. If George can create a similar culture at Bowling Green that he did at Tennessee State, I imagine the Falcons will have success on the recruiting trail.

The former Buckeye has major ties to Ohio, having played college ball at Ohio State. If George can find in-state recruiting success for Bowling Green, then the Falcons have a real chance to succeed within the Mac.

While George should help Bowling Green in the short term, I see this as more of a stepping stone move for his coaching career. George has already risen up the coaching ranks by moving from the FCS to the FBS with this move, and if he can prove himself worthy of a power four coaching gig while he’s at Bowling Green, I imagine he would take it.
