Ed Reed’s Storied Career
Ed Reed’s National Football League career is the stuff of legend. While playing 11 seasons, especially for the Baltimore Ravens, he established himself as one of the greatest safeties in football history.
Reed’s instincts, leadership, and game-changing plays have made him an icon on and off the field. His induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019 solidified his legacy.

Moving to Chamblee High School adds an exciting new chapter to Reed’s football journey. A Consensus All-American with the national champion Miami Hurricanes prior to his NFL success, the former first-round pick had a three-year hiatus between finishing his playing career and embarking on his coaching career.
After just one season with the Buffalo Bulls, Reed returned to his alma mater, where he spent the next three seasons in an administrative role for the football team from 2020-2022. In 2023, he agreed to become the head coach at Bethune-Cookman University, but negotiations fell through, ending that opportunity.
Legends in the Coaching World
Reed is part of a growing trend of legendary NFL players turning to coaching after their playing careers. From Deion Sanders’ success with the Colorado Buffaloes to the likes of Kevin O’Connell and Dan Campbell in the NFL, many former stars are finding fulfillment in teaching and leading the next generation.
Sanders’ latest successes are evidence of the power this trend holds. He has transferred his playing expertise to a coaching role, making programs better and giving collegiate football new life. Similarly, Reed’s move will transform Chamblee High School’s football team.
As Reed embarks on his latest journey in the football world, he will attract eyes to Chamblee’s football team. They’re getting more than a coach; they’re getting a mentor and role model whose influence reaches far beyond the field. If Reed’s coaching career mirrors even a fraction of his playing career, the Bulldogs are in for an incredible era.
Chamblee High School is welcoming not just a coach, but rather a legend that may redefine what’s possible in high school football.
