Dive behind Akron’s two-win record in the 2023 college football season, and things aren’t quite as bad as you’d expect for a program that hasn’t had more than one conference win since 2019. They’ve been on the wrong side of a one-score game four times this season, including a 29-27 defeat to Indiana in mid-September.
In a game with two anemic offenses, defense is going to be a deciding factor. Akron has forced the second-lowest completion percentage to opposition quarterbacks this year.
For the first time since 2020, they aren’t rooted to the bottom of the MAC for points allowed. CJ Nunnally IV has been a force in the backfield, while Bryan McCoy is one of the top tacklers in the nation.
