EA Sports, Metallica Launch Marching Band Competition — Will ‘Enter Sandman’ Finally Be in College Football 26?

EA Sports, the company behind the College Football video game series, recently announced the launch of a new competition. The competition involves partnering with rock band Metallica to record a new background track for a future game.

According to the original post, the contest will be between multiple D1 Marching Bands. The winner will earn the chance to record two songs for the newest EA Sports College Football game: the CFB Theme Song and a special Metallica track.

One D1 Marching Band To Record CFB Theme and Metallica Song in Collaboration

With EA Sports and Metallica collaborating for this competition, the video game company also announced the name of the contest within the post.

“@easportscollege and @metallica are joining forces to give one college marching band an opportunity to take the field and get in the game: The Division 1 winner of the For Whom the Band Tolls!” EA Sports announced.

“Competition will not only get to record the CFB Theme Song but also record a Metallica song for a future edition of CFB. Metallica – and one lucky marching band – will rock CFB like never before!” the post continued.

Will Metallica’s ‘Enter Sandman’ Finally Be in EA Sports College Football?

One detail that many fans haven’t missed is that EA Sports announced that the winner will also be recording a Metallica song alongside the CFB Theme Song. This means that there is an increasingly high chance that the ACC’s Virginia Tech Hokies might finally get its iconic entrance.

“Regarded as college football’s greatest entrance, ‘Enter Sandman’ dates back to Aug. 27, 2000, when Virginia Tech installed the first videoboard in Lane Stadium. A new videoboard means a new walkout song, and ‘Enter Sandman’ won out over ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ by Guns N’ Roses and ‘Sirius’ by The Alan Parsons Project,” the Hokies’ website says.

‘Enter Sandman’ got its “jump” start a few years later on a chilly night when one band member started jumping to warm up. Before long, several other band members joined in, and the spontaneous act evolved into the legendary entrance.

“The next thing you know, the whole band is jumping up and down, and then the next thing you know, the whole stadium is jumping up and down,”

Even Metallica themselves have become part of the entrance’s storied history, recording a video in 2011 that was played alongside the team’s entrance during a game against the Miami Hurricanes.

With the recent announcement, Virginia Tech and College Football Fans can surely hope the iconic theme to be a part of next year’s game. If it’s not part of the plan, then EA Sports should be making plans now following the reaction to the announcement.
