Patrick Mahomes is the face of the Kansas City Chiefs and one of the most exciting quarterbacks in NFL history. He has won several Super Bowls and earned NFL MVP awards. Many consider him one of the most exciting quarterbacks in football history.
Now, one of the top prospects from the 2024 class—Nebraska’s highly rated quarterback Dylan Raiola—is starting to draw comparisons to Mahomes. After a rough season, Raiola is working hard to prove himself in 2025. And so far, he’s giving people a reason to believe the hype. The comparison may seem bold, but it’s turning heads for all the right reasons.

Why Dylan Raiola’s Offseason Decision Has Scouts Thinking Mahomes 2.0
During his first season, Raiola showed flashes of talent but also faced challenges, including inconsistencies in his play. Now, heading into his sophomore year, he is making major offseason moves to improve his game, including training with Patrick Mahomes’ personal coach, Jeff Christensen.
“He will be flying down to Texas with Nebraska’s top five wide receivers to personally train with them and his personal trainer, Jeff Christensen, who’s also the trainer of Patrick Mahomes and a bunch of other high-quality NFL quarterbacks,” said the host of Wilson Dittman Sports recently.
Raiola’s decision to train with Christensen, the same coach who helped Mahomes refine his mechanics, is a clear indication that he’s modeling his game after the Chiefs’ superstar. We don’t think Christensen’s training will be too hard on him since Raiola has demonstrated similarities to Mahomes’ off-platform throws, quick decision-making, and ability to extend plays.
But truly speaking, it’s more than just skill training. It seems like he is planning to lean more toward building chemistry with his teammates. Dittman also pointed out that these workouts are about more than just drills and routes.
He said, “They’ll be working out together, obviously running routes, doing drills. But I think one of the most important things with that event is that he’s going to be building a lot of relationships with those players.”
Besides training, Raiola has worked hard on his physical condition. He lost weight and improved his mobility. Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule praised him, saying Raiola is “ten steps ahead” of where he was last season.
Originally from Hawaii, Raiola was a top-ranked recruit in the 2024 class. He flipped his commitment from Georgia to Nebraska with big expectations, but his first year didn’t quite match the hype. Now, with training under Mahomes’ coach, many believe this could be his breakout season.
