Three-time Pro-Bowler AJ Brown played a key role in helping the Philadelphia Eagles win it all last season. Out of his six seasons in the NFL, he has caught more than 1,000 yards in five seasons. Thus, it was surprising to see Brown getting no touches in the first half during the game against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday’s NFL curtain opener.
Brown finished the game, catching only one reception for eight yards despite no such reports of injury trouble or other concerns.

San Antonio Spurs’ 2025 second overall pick, Dylan Harper’s dad, Ron Harper, didn’t mind this stat line as long as the team was winning.
“All of you are about individuals in the game when the players care about winning… Congratulations on winning…,” Harper wrote on X.

As Harper said, despite a lower volume of receptions towards AJ Brown, the Eagles winning the game 24-20 overcompensates for the stat line of an individual. It’s a team sport, and thus the team takes precedence over individual stats.

What AJ Brown Said After Being Limited to Just One Target in Week 1 Against the Cowboys?
While AJ Brown would be happy with the Week 1 win for the Eagles, he’ll be disappointed as well after not being actively involved in getting there. However, the veteran wide receiver was straightforward in his response that not much is in his hands with respect to getting touches. He played his part and tried to get open, but if Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts had someone else to throw at, he wouldn’t mind much.
“You know, that’s not something I can control,” Brown said via Penn Live. “What I can control is my effort for when the ball does come my way.”
Hurts also acknowledged and praised Brown after the game for staying patient and understanding the dynamics of the game.
“They (Cowboys) were just doing a really good job of matching up with us in the coverage; it’s something that we should be better at,” Hurts told reporters. “Great job by him (Brown) for staying patient. He had a big moment by making a play. It was the most important play of the game in my eyes. We were able to put ourselves in a position to get that third down.”
It remains to be seen if AJ Brown will see more action in the Eagles’ Week 2 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
