Alabama’s defensive end Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. was arrested during the weekend on multiple charges in Tuscaloosa, according to AL. He was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail on Saturday at noon. The Crimson Tide is currently on its bye week.
A spokesperson for the school said the following about the situation:
“We are aware of an incident involving Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. and are working to gather more details at this time,” an Alabama athletics spokesperson told Robinson.
He was charged with three counts of reckless endangerment, one count of attempting to elude, and speeding, according to jail records. Within the hour of his arrest, Kirkpatrick Jr. was released on a $1500 bond.
He’s the son of Dre Kirkpatrick, a two-time Alabama national champion under Nick Saban (2009 and 2011). Kirkpatrick, a cornerback, was a first-round pick in the NFL Draft of 2012 and went on to have a decade-long NFL career with the Cincinnati Bengals, Arizona Cardinals, and San Francisco 49ers.

Nick Saban on Dre Kirkpatrick’s son playing for Alabama
Nick Saban was the one to recruit Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. shortly before he retired in 2024. The defensive back committed to Alabama as a three-star recruit in August of 2023, becoming Nick Saban’s first-ever legacy recruit.
At the time, Saban gave the following statement regarding the importance of bringing legacy recruits into Alabama:
“I think that’s the first legacy for Alabama. Not necessarily the first legacy for me. I coached Mark Ingram‘s dad at Michigan State — but the first generational legacy player that played for us at Alabama and now has a son playing here. I think it’s great,” Saban said in Dec. 2023.
“His dad has been a really good ambassador for the program, was a great player here and had a great NFL career. You really appreciate that part of it, but I know how proud he is of his son and what his son has been able to accomplish as his son has an opportunity to come to Alabama.”
More details of Kirkpatrick Jr’s arrest are expected on Monday morning during Kalen DeBoer’s opening press conference of the week.
