SMU Lands Historic Five-Star Signee: Dramodd Odoms Becomes Highest-Rated Recruit in Program History

SMU secured a historic five-star signee in the stellar offensive lineman Dramodd Odoms, the highest-rated recruit in the Mustangs history.

The SMU Mustangs received a major boost in their 2025 recruiting rankings as offensive lineman Dramodd Odoms earned a five-star rating from 247Sports. The Houston native is now among the top nine offensive linemen in his class to receive this distinction. Odoms, though, received another historic title.

Dramodd Odoms Becomes Program’s Highest-Rated Recruit

The athlete’s 20th overall 247Sports ranking surpasses all previous SMU recruits, including quarterback Preston Stone. Not only that, but Odoms was also named the sixth best offensive tackle in the class and the sixth best in Texas.

This recruiting cycle marks a historic moment because 247Sports has never awarded five-star ratings to nine offensive linemen in a single class since its inception in 2000.

SMU’s recruiting efforts have strengthened significantly under head coach Rhett Lashlee. The 2025 and 2026 classes alone contain five of the top 10 highest-rated recruits in program history.

The Mustangs’ 2025 recruiting class is currently ranked No. 32 nationally, reflecting the program’s growing presence in the recruiting landscape.

Odoms committed to the Mustangs in July 2024, selecting SMU over offers from Purdue, Mississippi State, and Houston.

Though his recruitment process was relatively quiet at first, he gained traction leading into the summer and ultimately chose SMU because of the strong relationships he built with the coaching staff. In an interview about his commitment, Odoms stated that he felt that the coaches in the Mustang program were “genuine.”

“It’s just genuine people at SMU; that’s why I like it so much there.”

His commitment helped SMU’s 2025 class rise eight spots in the national rankings. Now ranked No. 32, the class features 16 commits, including six four-star prospects and four players ranked in the Rivals 250.

Navy All-American Bowl Performance Elevated Dramodd Odoms Status

Odoms’ rise in the rankings followed a standout performance at the 2025 Navy All-American Bowl. A 247Sports scouting analyst highlighted his 6’6″, 300-pound frame, exceptional wingspan, and increasing athleticism.

Odoms’ ability to dominate in practice, coupled with his aggressive playstyle, solidified his reputation as one of the top prospects in the class.

“Plays with a nasty streak, which showed all week during 2025 Navy All-American Bowl practices,” a recent scouting report noted. “Consistently angry field demeanor that manifests in the run game, especially when looking for extra work.”

During the event, Odoms measured a 34″ arm length and a 6’10 1/2″ wingspan. His consistent high-level performance secured him a spot among the week’s top practice performers.
