A consensus four-star recruit and one of the top 70 prospects across the nation for the class of 2021, Maye stayed at home and signed with the Tar Heels and coach Mack Brown as an early enrollee. An illustrious high school quarterback, Maye had over 80 passing touchdowns and nearly 7,000 passing yards in his final two seasons at Myers Park.

With UNC ties in his blood, Maye’s father, Mark, played for the Tar Heels in the 80s. His brother, Luke, played on the UNC basketball team from 2015-19, and he joined his brother, Beau, a member of the basketball team, as current Maye’s in attendance. It didn’t stop there in terms of collegiate athletes in the family, as Maye’s brother, Cole, played baseball for Florida.
Maye took the college football world by storm in 2022, taking over for Sam Howell for the Tar Heels.
