Dontae Manning’s Pro Day Draws Elite NFL Interest, Oregon Ducks Rebuild Secondary After Key Departures

Dontae Manning’s 4.26 40-yard dash time at Oregon’s Pro Day drew NFL eyeballs. The former five-star prospect and 11th-highest ranked recruit all-time at Oregon impressed after playing only one game in a pandemic-shortened 2020 freshman year.

Manning played in 13 games in his redshirt freshman year, making his first career start in the Alamo Bowl. He started two of his 13 appearances the next year, and four of thirteen his junior year, when he recorded his first career interception against Oregon State. Last year, Manning played in all 14 games for the Ducks, making one start and recording one interception against Penn State in the Big Ten Championship Game.

Dontae Manning’s 4.26 40-Yard Dash at Pro Day Draws NFL Eyeballs

Manning’s speedy 40-yard dash time drew the attention of NFL teams, including the San Francisco 49ers. Manning has met with several teams, including the 49ers, according to National NFL Reporter Arye Pulli.

Now, the Ducks have to find replacements in the secondary. Jabbar Muhammad, Oregon’s top cornerback in 2024, is the third in a line of Ducks cover men to head to the NFL following Christian Gonzalez in 2022 and Khyree Jackson in 2023. ESPN has Muhammad ranked as the 27th best corner in the 2025 NFL Draft, and 283rd player overall.

Northwestern transfer Theran Johnson is expected to take over that mantle this year, with Jahlil Florence coming off injury and Sione Laulea coming off a redshirt season expected to round out the rest of the top corners. Johnson had 53 tackles — 3.5 for loss — with two interceptions and 10 pass breakups last year.

“They’re loaded,” Muhammad told Oregon Live. “All I can say is those coaches are going to have a hard time trying to get all those guys on the field, but I guess that’s a good problem to have.”
