A name to know for the 2023 college football season, Donovan Callis has made it official and transferred to Cincinnati. Callis drew heavy interest after announcing his name in the transfer portal before ultimately signing with the Bearcats.
Donovan Callis Transfers to Cincinnati
Callis had quite a ride in the portal. After announcing his decision to enter back on April 15 when the spring transfer portal window opened, Callis’ phone was very busy.
Penn State, Arkansas, Virginia Tech, Charlotte, Utah State, Miami (OH), Georgia Southern, Murray State, and Norfolk State all had extended offers to Callis.
In the end, he chose the Bearcats despite the interest from all corners of the country.
Callis drew this interest mainly due to his coverage prowess. At 6’0″, he has the requisite length to stick with defenders on the outside and the range to track any kind of receiver across the field. He made three career interceptions at East Central but another 20 pass breakups, including 17 in the past two seasons.
Callis also showcased the ability to burst to the football at the catch point and has terrific athleticism to sky to the football make quick breaks to the ball through traffic. His instincts are also terrific as he routinely passed off his receivers to make plays on balls that weren’t even in his target area.
He is a fiesty cornerback who doesn’t shy away from contact and plays a great game at or around the line of scrimmage against the run. Callis is a name to know as an immediate impact player for the Bearcats.
