Deion Sanders is a rare two-sport phenom who thrived in both the NFL and MLB. While his NFL career cemented his Hall of Fame legacy, his baseball journey had its own shining moments, including an electric performance in the 1992 World Series with the Atlanta Braves, where he slashed .533 and swiped five bases with ease.
Sanders also suited up for the Cincinnati Reds, hitting .277 across 46 games while racking up 19 stolen bases, seven doubles, and four triples. Given his father’s impressive two-sport legacy, many have wondered if Shedeur Sanders ever felt the pull to follow in his footsteps.

Shedeur Sanders Breaks Silence on Attempting Two Sports
Sheduer Sanders has no plans to take his talents to Major League Baseball, as his heart is set on dominating the football field. While his father thrived in both sports, Sanders’ focus remains locked on the gridiron.
In a video posted by 2Legendary on Instagram, the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback responded to a viral clip of him taking swings in the batting cage.
“After our workout, I just felt like going to the batting cage and practice my baseball skills. See what I still have. I don’t know, it’s like when you get to that 60 mph and up range, then it gets really, really, really fast. That’s what reminded me why, you know, I chose to just stick to football,” Sanders said.

Sanders acknowledged that his father introduced him to baseball, but he quickly realized it wasn’t his calling. He admitted that hitting a blazing fastball requires a sharp eye and elite hand-eye coordination. For Sanders, the choice is clear. He’d rather take a hard hit on the football field than try to track a 100 mph pitch at the plate.
“Dad definitely instilled baseball in us when we was younger. So, I lived a full, you know, youth. I don’t know if I could’ve went pro in baseball because it’s like, you can put in the work but your eye, it’s like, you got to have a good eye, for those fast, fast pitches. I’d rather get hit on a football field than get hit with a baseball,” he added.
With the 2025 NFL Draft looming, Sanders finds himself locked in a high-stakes battle for the No. 1 overall pick against Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward. With his future in the NFL hanging in the balance, Sanders has his sights set solely on the gridiron.
Shedeur Sanders Explains His Love for Football
Sanders’ unwavering commitment to football is crystal clear, and the numbers back it up. In 2024, he torched defenses for 4,134 passing yards while maintaining an elite 74% completion rate. Though he took a staggering 52 sacks, his resilience under pressure has only sharpened his game.
In another video posted by 2Legendary on Instagram, Sanders was seen talking about his dedication to the sport, and how much of his life is invested into it.
“It’ll be hard for outside people, you know that just follow me on social media and everything to be able to know how locked in [I am] with this game and everything I do,” Sanders said.
“Because at the end of the day, it’s not like I post everything I’m doing all times of day. I always make sure I just handle my business first, then I get in like, you know, any festivities I want to get into outside of that,” Sanders added.

Even in his downtime, Sanders keeps football at the center of his world. When asked about his free time, he revealed that his hobbies still revolve around the game, whether it’s studying film, perfecting his mechanics, or visualizing plays.
“In my free time, all I do is watch old games or just listen to different types of music. If you’re around then you understand, like, how committed to football and how much football is my life, because that’s what you see 24/7,” he added.
Right now, Sanders is all-in on football, with no plans to test the waters in another sport. However, as history has shown, athletes can take unexpected turns.
Whether he eventually follows in his father’s footsteps like Coach Prime or makes a surprise switch like Michael Jordan’s MLB stint in 1994, only time will tell.
