Diore Hubbard has been one of the most talked-about names on West Virginia’s offense this season. The running back has impressed with his poise, work rate, and toughness, taking on a significant role in the Mountaineers’ ground attack.
Hubbard isn’t the biggest on the field, but his balance and burst have made him a reliable weapon for West Virginia. With the backfield thinned by injuries, the coaching staff has turned to him repeatedly to carry the load, and he’s responded with consistency.
West Virginia entered this weekend’s matchup against the Colorado Buffaloes looking to build momentum after a big win over Houston. The Mountaineers were hoping to lean on Hubbard again to set the tone on offense.
Early in the first quarter, though, things took an unexpected turn. On a third-and-long play, Hubbard took a short pass and went down awkwardly as he was tackled. He immediately reached for his leg and had to be helped off the field. Moments later, he was taken to the medical tent for evaluation.
The sideline sequence raised concern. Hubbard was seen trying to jog and test the leg after treatment, but discomfort was clear. Eventually, he made his way to the locker room for further checks.

The early exit left the Mountaineers short-handed, especially with several other running backs already unavailable. The offense briefly adjusted, giving Cyncir Bowers a few carries while the staff monitored Hubbard’s condition.
Thankfully for West Virginia fans, Hubbard later returned to the sideline and re-entered the game. His return brought a visible lift to the Mountaineers’ energy, showing that the injury was not as serious as initially feared.

Diore Hubbard Had a Career High Performance
Just a week ago, Diore Hubbard delivered the best game of his young career against the Houston Cougars. In West Virginia’s 45–35 victory, he carried the ball 29 times for 108 rushing yards and added a touchdown on the ground.
He also caught two passes, helping move the chains and keeping drives alive during key moments. Hubbard’s 108-yard game was his first time crossing the 100-yard mark at the college level.
The coaching staff trusted him with nearly every early down carry, and he rewarded them by producing first downs and avoiding turnovers. It was a statement game, proof that Hubbard could handle a workhorse role against a ranked opponent.
Hubbard’s rapid development has been one of the season’s bright spots. His performance against Houston gave a glimpse of his potential, and his quick recovery from today’s injury scare reinforces that he’s built to handle the grind of Big 12 football.
