The Cleveland Browns’ quarterback room is currently shrouded in uncertainty, with Shedeur Sanders, Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and Kenny Pickett in the mix, causing confusion among franchise fans about who should be the starter.
While some believe a veteran like Flacco, who’s entering his 18th season as a QB should start, others think the responsibility should be given to one of the rookies.
There is also a massive debate whether it should be Sanders or Dillon Gabriel, who should get the starting QB role in the 2025 season.
After Shedeur Sanders impressed the fans with his performance during his preseason debut in game 1, it was Dillon Gabriel’s time to shine in game 2 against the Eagles, which did not go as planned.
In one of the sideline interviews posted by ESPN Cleveland , Gabriel was asked about his mindset during the debut, to which he said, “There’s entertainers and there’s competitors and I understand that but my job is to compete,” which many fans assumed was about Shedeur Sanders.

“Dude really took a shot across Sanders. Pretty bold for someone who threw a pick 6 and had a fumble,” One fan commented.
“We all know he was talking about noodle arm Sanders and the circus that follows him. They’re all quiet now that Gabriel proved he was better,” another fan conspired.
“Browns are creating a locker room mess. Players are gonna start choosing sides if they haven’t already. Plz release or trade Shaduer so he can get out of there,” another fan added.
“Compete for a job parking cars in the lot. Pick 6,lost fumble,2 sacks and no tds. You didn’t entertain or compete effectively. We’d be lucky to get a future 6th for our 3rd,” another fan expressed frustration.
“Man at this point im rooting for them to play him as much as possible bcuz the more he plays they quicker he be out of the nfl 5 year college qb nobody wants you in three years until clev third round and now we all see why if this who it want Cleveland this why yall sad,” another fan added.
“All the antics aside, I just don’t think a 5’7″ QB can play well in the NFL. Even if he had the skill, it’s gonna be hard to be a starting QB when you can barely see over your O-line,” another fan pointed out.

Johnny Manziel Weighs In on Shedeur Sanders’ NFL Preparedness
Shedeur Sanders‘ NFL journey started on a very unexpected note. While, he was projected to go in the top 5 picks during the 2025 NFL Draft, he ended up sliding till the fifth round.
The ex Colorado star was eventually picked up by the Cleveland Browns as the 144th overall pick, which sparked a lot of frenzy on the internet as analysts believed he deserved to go higher.
However, Shedeur has moved on from the event and has been focusing on his game ever since he stepped foot in the rookie mini camp and the training camp.
Talking about his preparedness for the NFL after his preseason debut last week, Johnny Manziel told the USA Today:
“Knowing his family, knowing his dad for a long time, [he’s] well prepared for the moment,” Manziel told USA TODAY Sports. “Well prepared for everything that comes with being in the NFL and playing the quarterback position.”
Shedeur Sanders was out due to strained oblique injury during the matchup against the Eagles on Aug. 16.
