A moment of sheer athletic display against Texas Tech saw Devon Dampier, the quarterback for Utah, drop back and throw a perfect pass as the ball landed right in the hands of receiver Jackson Bennee in the endzone for a touchdown. However, the play was ruled out, which resulted in an outrage by fans on Reddit.

“Ref ball ruins the sport for everyone,” stated a fan.
“Its a horrible penalty. Almost as bad as NFL requiring tackles to declare their eligibility,” said a fan.
“What a f*cking sh*t show,” commented a fan.
“This really became a sh*tshow in a matter of minutes,” remarked a fan.
“My god this might be the most insane first quarter I’ve seen in years,” commented another fan.
“this game is who can gift the ball to the other more,” stated another fan.
The call was especially hurtful for the Utes. They already had a nightmarish start to the game. The first quarter was a struggle for both offenses with serious mistakes.

Before the negated touchdown, the Utes had been completely suffocated. On a bold fourth-and-one at midfield, the Red Raiders’ defense stopped the Utes. The turnovers placed Texas Tech in excellent position early in the game.
Mistakes then opened the floodgates for the Utes. Running back Ryan Davis fumbled after a promising gain. Texas Tech linebacker Ben Roberts sidled in expertly, punched the ball loose to recover.

Texas Tech took advantage of Utah’s early misgivings. Quarterback Behren Morton took control and directed a masterful drive. Morton linked up with J’Koby Williams on a short pass that led to a huge gain. Williams broke a few tackles and took it 73 yards on third-and-long.
By the end of the first quarter, Texas Tech led Utah 7-0, and it’ll be interesting to see if the score will change by the end of the game.
