Desmond Howard Faces Instant Backlash After SEC Jab During College GameDay Segment

For years, the SEC was by far the most dominant conference in college football. However, in recent years, the Big Ten has become competitive with the SEC, and many even believe it has surpassed the SEC as the most dominant conference. Notably, with Ohio State winning last year, the Big Ten had the national champion for the second year in a row.

This year, the Big Ten has several national championship contenders again. Ohio State and Indiana are the top two teams on the AP Top 25 Poll, and Oregon is the No. 6-ranked team.

College GameDay is covering an SEC matchup this week between the No. 10-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores and No. 15-ranked Missouri Tigers. Despite that, some members of the panel spoke about how the Big Ten is the top conference in college football right now. Notably, Desmond Howard made some passionate comments on Saturday morning.

“I think the Big Ten will get three in. I think the Big Ten right now runs college football,” Desmond Howard said. “I mean, college football, it goes through the Big Ten Conference.”

Then, as fans started to boo, Howard made another comment about the SEC.

“Hey, the SEC is a basketball conference, there’s nothing wrong with that. You guys should take pride in that, and baseball. Great baseball.”

Howard then laughed at the reaction from the fans in attendance and the other members of the panel.

College GameDay Is Covering a Pivotal SEC Matchup On Saturday

While Desmond Howard called out the SEC for falling behind the Big Ten, he and the rest of the College GameDay panel are covering a pivotal SEC matchup on Saturday. They are covering a matchup between Vanderbilt and Missouri, two teams that could contend for the SEC championship.

However, both teams already have one conference loss, and as a result, they have no more margin of error. The loser of this game will likely be out of SEC championship contention. So, it is a must-win game for both teams as the final stages of the regular season approach.
