Alabama freshman standout wide receiver Derek Meadows was set to make the biggest catch of his young career on Saturday against Missouri. He jumped up to catch the ball and appeared to briefly have control of the ball before he was hit hard by Missouri defender Marvin Burks. It was a scary moment as after the hit, Meadows remained on the ground, motionless.

Burks was ejected from the game for targeting on the play. After a few scary moments, Meadows was able to get back on his feet with assistance and was taken off the field. He did not go to the medical tent; instead, he headed straight to the locker room.
“Derek Meadows is skipping the tent and heading straight to the locker room. Alabama is now down to six available wide receivers.”

An Injury Update on Alabama Freshman Standout Derek Meadows
Whenever a player is motionless on the field, it is scary. As a result, many fans were waiting for an update on Derek Meadows’ status after the incident. ESPN’s Katie George provided a report from the sideline a short time after the hit.
“Jeff Allen, the head athletic trainer for Alabama, got to Meadows immediately while he was face down on the field,” Katie George said. “They stabilized his neck, rolled him over onto his back. Once they stabilized the neck when he was face up, they started testing his mobility and movement of his hands and his legs. He was able to move both and he walked off the field under his own power.”
Based on the report from George, it does not appear that Meadows suffered any permanent injuries. However, it is still only a short time after the hit, so more updates are likely to come. Meadows is not expected to return to the game.
