Dell McGee’s Salary, Contract, Net Worth, and More

Georgia State moved quickly to find a head coach late in the coaching carousel. What is Dell McGee's salary, contract, and net worth?

The Georgia State Panthers were one of several Group of Five schools to have its head coach poached for a smaller role at a bigger school when Shawn Elliott returned to Columbia to become South Carolina’s tight ends coach and run game coordinator.

That left the Panthers without a coach at the dawn of spring practice. Georgia State moved quickly and hired Georgia running backs coach Dell McGee. Here’s Dell McGee’s salary, contract, and net worth as he steps into his first season at the helm.

Dell McGee’s Salary and Contract in 2024

Since McGee was hired recently, his contract details have not yet been released. However, his salary is likely close to what he and Shawn Elliott made last year.

McGee was the second-highest-paid running backs coach in college football last season, earning $850,000 at Georgia last season. That number is slightly higher than the $811,000 Elliott made as the Georgia State head coach last season.

Because his salary details have yet to be made public, we can assume that McGee’s contract is somewhere in that range.

A first-time head coach at the college level, McGee got his start on the Georgia high school football scene, turning Carver-Columbus into a powerhouse. Before his arrival, the Tigers had gone nine straight years without a winning season. In eight years, he amassed an 88-19 record, leading the school to its first seven double-digit win seasons in its history.

He joined the college ranks as an analyst with the Auburn Tigers (his alma mater) before moving to Georgia Southern. He has a 1-0 career record as head coach after taking over for the GoDaddy Bowl in 2015.

McGee’s Net Worth

McGee has been well-compensated in relation to his peers since he joined the Georgia coaching staff.

While he made less than $100,000 a year when working at Georgia Southern, McGee’s salary in 2016 — when he was hired by Kirby Smart at Georgia — was $275,000. It grew rapidly from there, and by 2019, his base salary had swelled to $650,000, plus money for incentives and bonuses.

Since 2021, his salary has been over $800,000 each year before any bonuses or incentives. While we don’t know the exact number, his net worth is likely in the $1-2 million range and should only go up as he continues to get head coaching experience.
