Deion Sanders, Shedeur Sanders, and the Colorado Buffaloes are some of the biggest brands in football — period. With the younger Sanders gearing up for the pre-draft process, rumors continue to swirl, but Coach Prime took his time to dispel one of them on Saturday.
Would Shedeur Sanders Refuse To Play for Certain NFL Franchises?
On Dec. 14, an X account named “NFL Rookie Watch” reported that Shedeur Sanders, a top QB prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft, was “prepared” to be selected by the Las Vegas Raiders or the Dallas Cowboys.
However, the account also noted that there was a “high likelihood” the signal-caller would refuse to play for either the New York Giants (No. 2) or the Cleveland Browns (No. 8), who hold top-eight picks.
Two-time Super Bowl-winning QB Eli Manning is perhaps the most notable example of a draft prospect pulling such a move.
Despite being selected first overall by the San Diego Chargers in the 2004 NFL Draft, Manning made it clear he wouldn’t play for the organization. This led to a blockbuster trade that sent him to the Giants and Philip Rivers to the Chargers.
Yet, the report appears to be completely false, with Coach Prime voicing his displeasure on X.
A Lie don’t care who tells it.
Please stop trying to become relevant by misrepresenting my son. God bless you. 🙏🏾 https://t.co/lvLpYD4HTh— COACH PRIME (@DeionSanders) December 14, 2024
Deion Sanders Jr. also defended Shedeur, saying, “Bro is completely lying about everything he just tweeted.”
NFL Rookie Watch’s original post was even community-noted: “This is a complete lie.”

Coach Prime has emphasized finding the right NFL fit for Shedeur and two-way superstar Travis Hunter. While he’s been vocal about prioritizing their future, he has never explicitly ruled out specific franchises.
When speaking on FS1 in November, Sanders admitted he’d pull strings if necessary to ensure Shedeur and Hunter avoid the wrong situations.
“Yeah, but I’m not gonna do it publicly. I’d do it privately,” Sanders said. “I’m gonna be Dad until the cows come home, and with Travis as well.”
