“If You Believed In Him, Why Didn’t You Start Him”: Podcaster Questions Deion Sanders’ Surprise QB Decision As Kaidon Salter Takes Backseat vs Houston

Rhode Rants from the Black and White Sports Football podcast was clear in making statements about Deion Sanders and his current quarterback situation. In his recent X deep-dive segment, Rhodes called out what he sees as a hypocritical stance of Coach Prime in relation to the development of players.

Rhodes targeted Sanders’ public statements expressing confidence in his players as opposed to his game-time choices. Rhodes questioned how sincere Sanders could be in saying something like “I believe in you, man” about Kaidon Salter.

“I just have to wonder if you believed in him so much, why didn’t you start him?” asked Rhodes (5:30).

“I think sometimes you got to let these kids fail a little bit during games and not move off of them. If they throw a pick, whatever, go out there and say, ‘Forget about it. Go kick a*s.’ I’m not sure enough coaches do that,” he further elaborated.

This statement came after Sanders benched fifth-year senior Kaidon Salter, starting Ryan Staub in a crucial Big 12 Conference game against Houston.

Rhodes made an observation about the circumstances surrounding this quarterback shift in Colorado. The Buffaloes go into Friday night’s game at TDECU Stadium hosting Houston with a 1-1 record after beating Delaware 31-7.

Conner Weigman and Dean Connors Power Houston Cougars’ Attack

The quarterback situation comes at a particularly difficult time for the Colorado Buffaloes. Houston Cougars head into this contest undefeated at 2-0. The oddsmakers have installed the Cougars as 5.5-point favorites, indicating this road test should not be easy for Colorado.

Houston quarterback Conner Weigman has been terrific in two games. He has thrown for 347 passing yards, and four touchdowns while leading an explosive offensive unit. Running back Dean Connors has added to the unit with 182 total rushing yards, and two touchdowns.

Colorado’s offensive statistics have been a mixed bag leading into Houston. Running back Simeon Price has 85 yards on 14 carries while receiver Sincere Brown has tallied four receptions for 120 yards and one touchdown.
