Colorado HC Deion Sanders Reveals Health Scares Have Resurfaced, Assures Fans He’s ‘OK’

The 2025 college football season is quickly approaching, and Deion Sanders’s Colorado Buffaloes are looking forward to a new era without stars Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders, who were both selected in April’s NFL Draft.

The good news is that the team has already started their preparations with summer camp, and new quarterback Kaidon Salter is learning to lead the offense. However, there is some bad news. Head coach Deion Sanders is absent from the camp in Boulder, reportedly due to resurfaced health reasons.

Deion Sanders Reportedly Missing Colorado Practices Due to Health Concerns

Deion Sanders has had a very busy offseason, as the Buffs lost their two best players from the team. We all know who they are—one is Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, and the other is Coach Prime’s son, Shedeur Sanders, who was selected as the 144th overall pick by the Cleveland Browns in the 2025 NFL draft.

The head coach is working hard to make the necessary adjustments to handle these new challenges ahead of the upcoming season. So, he is supposed to lead the team through summer camp, but right now, he’s not with them.

According to On3 and Terre Quillian, a reporter out of Texas, Deion is currently rehabbing blood clots in his legs from his home in Texas.

Last month, during an appearance on the “Said What Needs to Be Said” podcast, the 57-year-old confessed that he lost about 14 pounds. While he acknowledged that he needed to lose the weight for health reasons, he also limited his public appearances, further hinting that he has been struggling with his health.

Recently, his son, Deion Sanders Jr., assured fans that his father is feeling well during a YouTube live stream. He did not provide specific details about his father’s medical issues, simply stating, “He’ll tell y’all soon enough what he’s going through, what he went through.”

He also did not give a specific timeline for when his father would return to summer camp.

Still, on Wednesday, June 11, Prime took to X to announce to fans that he is feeling better.

“Wow, I am truly blessed by the abundance of well wishes, thoughts, and prayers. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!” the coach wrote. I can assure you all that everything is OKAY and will continue to be so. God got me like no other. I have so much more work to do to Glorify God, so please believe God got me!”

He continued, “I’m excited to get back to Colorado to be at home with my staff, team & all associated to our program. When we arrive back to Boulder, you will be updated on everything.

Sanders’ health concerns are not new to the community. In 2022, he underwent multiple surgeries due to blood clots, which ultimately led to the amputation of two toes. The following year, he was hospitalized again for similar complications, missing media day.

His latest absence has added another layer of tension, as he is the most transformative figure in the camp, according to loyal fans.

Without him, many Colorado supporters are concerned about how the team is adjusting during summer camp, making his uncertain return a major point of discussion.
