Hykeem Williams Commits to Colorado as Buffs Become Unofficial WR Factory

Having lost three receivers in the 2025 NFL Draft, including No. 2 overall pick Travis Hunter, Deion Sanders and Colorado reached into the transfer portal to help recoup. The Buffaloes earned a commitment from former five-star wideout Williams, who relocates to Boulder from Florida State.

Williams joins fellow receiver transfers Sincere Brown (Campbell) and Joseph Williams (Tulsa) as potential targets for Shedeur Sanders’ successor, whether that be Liberty import Kaidon Salter or highly-touted freshman Julian Lewis.

During his two seasons with the Seminoles, Williams tallied just 21 grabs for 267 yards and two touchdowns. Injuries threw a wrench into his starter projection in Tallahassee this spring, prompting his entry into the portal. Williams has two years of eligibility remaining.

According to 247Sports, Williams was the No. 4-ranked receiver in the 2023 class. Zachariah Branch (No. 1, USC), Jurrion Dickey (No. 2, Oregon), and Carnell Tate (No. 3, Ohio State) were those rated in front of him. Branch has since transferred to Georgia, Dickey has only two career receptions for the Ducks, and Tate has proven to be the best of that quartet, putting up 70 catches for 997 yards and five touchdowns.

247Sports’ director of scouting, Andrew Ivi, likened Williams to Julio Jones. Ivins wrote in that same scouting report, “Owns a thick, muscular build and looks almost like a tight end or even a linebacker in street clothes. Explosive —and more importantly— coordinated in almost everything he does, likely due to his hoops background.”

Williams stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 215 pounds. He was stuck behind Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson during his freshman season, but a hamstring issue limited him last go-round. Williams finished with 16 receptions for 187 yards and a touchdown in nine games.

Per 247Sports, Williams is the No. 29 receiver in this year’s transfer class. Those in front of him include Penn State’s Trebor Pena (No. 26, Syracuse), Georgia Tech’s Eric Rivers (No. 14, FIU), and Eric Singleton Jr. (No. 1, Auburn).

Coach Prime and the Buffaloes will be tested this go-round as the younger Sanders and Hunter, last year’s Heisman Trophy winner, find their place as professionals. Along with Hunter, who ended up with Jacksonville, Colorado also lost LaJohntay Wester (No. 203 overall, Baltimore) and Jimmy Horn Jr. (No. 208, Carolina). Will Sheppard signed with Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent.
