Analyst Weighs In On ‘Why Deion Sanders Would Want’ Julian Lewis As Son Shedeur Sanders’ Replacement At Colorado

Freshman quarterback Julian Lewis is the ideal long-term replacement for Shedeur Sanders, according to PFF College analyst Dalton Wasserman.

The analyst made clear in his analysis how Lewis moves with the same tempo, urgency and timing that Shedeur Sanders has been able to showcase in the current system at Colorado.

“He’s a lot more like Shedeur. Doesn’t have a huge size or a huge arm, necessarily, but he’s urgent. He’s on time. He’s accurate,” Wasserman explained during his analysis.

Wasserman followed that with this statement about how similar the two quarterbacks were:

“You can even see in his high school tape why Deion Sanders would want him as the successor, as the long-term successor, I should say, to Shedeur Sanders, because it’s the same type of urgent rhythm passer in the pocket.”

The current quarterback situation in Colorado is perfect for Julian Lewis to develop. With Shedeur Sanders planning to declare for the NFL Draft after the season, the program needs someone they can depend on to continue to have a similar model to build the offense off of. Lewis is that transition from what is happening now, to what they hope to build in the future.

Analyst Deems Julian Lewis Perfect Fit for Colorado’s Offensive System

Daniel Wasserman further praised Julian Lewis for displaying technical accuracy ahead of the 2025 season.

“He’s got good vision, he’s got a quick release, and they say he’s been playing really well in practice.”

Lewis may not be the prototypical size or cannon arm that scouts typically value, but his accuracy and timing show a quarterback who understands the position.

The analyst further illustrates how Julian Lewis’ tool kit meets the growing demands of college football today. Quarterbacks capable of making quick decisions and accurate throws tend to be much more successful than relying primarily on athleticism. This has obviously been an underlining principle of Coach Prime from the beginning of his quarterback development since arriving in Boulder.
