Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia burst onto the college football scene last season as one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the NCAA. While he was not playing for a program that typically competes with the best teams in the nation, Pavia was able to help the Commodores compete with some strong SEC teams, including Alabama.
Part of the reason Pavia has been able to have so much success is because of his confidence. On Friday, he released a hype up video on his Instagram account. In the video, he spoke early on, speaking about his goal of being the best.
“I’m a winner. I’ll do everything I can to win. At the end of the day, I’m the most electric football player and I will be the best every single Saturday.”

The video continued with a highlight package of some of Pavia’s best plays throughout his college career. This led to Coach Prime’s eldest son, Deion Sanders Jr, leaving a two-word message for the Vanderbilt QB.
“Young King,” Sanders wrote.

Diego Pavia joined the Vanderbilt Commodores last season after two years with New Mexico State. In his first season in the SEC, he completed 177 of 298 passing attempts for 2293 yards and 30 TDs. Pavia was also a dynamic rusher, making 193 carries for 800 yards and eight TDs.
Pavia’s biggest highlight from this past season came in the fifth game of the season. The Commodores had a matchup against the Alabama Crimson Tide, who were the No. 1-ranked team at the time. Despite being massive underdogs, the Commodores jumped out to a 23-14 lead in the first half. Then, because of the play of Pavia, they were able to close out the game and complete the upset, winning 40-35.
Diego Pavia Claims Vanderbilt Will Run the State of Tennessee Next Season
Diego Pavia’s success last year did nothing to hurt his confidence. Heading into the 2025 season, he is confident the Commodores can build on their 2024 season. In an appearance on the “Bussin’ With The Boys” podcast earlier in June, Pavia spoke about what he expects from Vanderbilt in 2025.
“Vanderbilt’s gonna run Tennessee after this year,” Pavia said. “Like, this is going to be the new staple of college football. It’s going to happen here at Vanderbilt.”
It is certainly a bold claim, but the Commodores should have a strong team next season. Additionally, with the Tennessee Volunteers losing QB Nico Iamaleava, they could take a step back.
