Former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders was projected by most draft experts as a first-round pick before the 2025 NFL draft. However, he went on to have a historic draft slide and was not picked until the Cleveland Browns selected him in the fifth round. There was speculation that the reason Sanders was not picked earlier was because of perceived attitude issues.
On Tuesday, Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam spoke with the media. During the interview, he was asked about the decision to pick Shedeur Sanders. This led to an interesting statement where he said it was not his decision to pick him, instead giving the credit (or blame, depending on his perspective) to Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry.
“We picked him on Saturday right? On Friday night, driving home, if you told me we would’ve picked Shedeur, I would’ve said that’s not happening,” Jimmy Haslam said. “But we had a conversation early that morning, a conversation later that day. We had the right people involved in the conversation.
“At the end of the day, that’s Andrew Berry’s call. Andrew made the call to pick Shedeur. Just like, who’s gonna start, what play we’re gonna call, that’s Kevin’s (Stefanski) call. That’s Andrew’s call. He made the call.”
On Wednesday, the Well Off Forever Instagram account, which is run by Deion Sanders Jr, posted the clip, including some other clips that appear to call out the Browns owner. He captioned the post “This some weird & wild shit for the owner to say”. In one of the slides of the post is an Ice T clip where he talks about how “real hating is like an art form.” Sanders Jr. included several other clips in the post that strike a similar tone.

Shedeur Sanders Has Maintained a Positive Attitude at Cleveland Browns Training Camp Despite the Outside Noise
Despite his draft fall and apparent criticism from the Browns owner and other people in the football community, Shedeur Sanders has maintained a positive attitude at training camp. At training camp last week, he was asked by the media how he felt about being the only Browns QB who was not getting reps with the first-team offense.
Sanders responded by saying he is focused on what he can control. He is not letting outside noise get to him and is focused on improving and believes he will be rewarded by staying focused. On Monday, Sanders got reps with the second-team offense.
