Deion Sanders Marks Return with Brief Health Update 3 Weeks After Major Weight Loss Revelation

Deion Sanders has been away from the Colorado Buffaloes for a while, as he continues recovering from an undisclosed condition. However, the Colorado head coach is back in the public eye, offering a short but telling update on his health.

Coach Prime, who had stepped away from team activities a few weeks ago, took to Instagram to share how he is powering through this difficult time. He gave a sneak peek of an outdoorsy setting, hinting that he was out for a walk. Sanders wrote a three-word message: “Walking it out!”

The post came 25 days after Sanders revealed on the “Say What Needs to Be Said” podcast that he had lost 14 pounds due to health complications. While he declined to share specifics, the 57-year-old described the issue as “on a whole another level.”

This is not the first time that Sanders has given his fans a health scare. However, the silence around it has become a cause of concern and speculation among the fans.

Deion Sanders’ Recent History of Health Battles

While Coach Prime has aged like fine wine, he has faced multiple medical setbacks in recent years. In 2022, while he was still transitioning to Colorado University from Jackson State, he underwent toe amputations on his left foot because of blood clots. A year later, he required another procedure to relieve clots in both legs, resulting in the removal of tissue from his left calf and forcing him to miss Pac-12 media day.

In an Instagram post from July 2023, Sanders wrote:

“Following my Dr’s recommendations and will be going in for another procedure. Unfortunately this means I will not be in attendance of Pac-12 media day BUT this will ensure I am back on my feet for the start of fall camp. Good day and God bless.”

His latest health episode again prompted a pause in coaching responsibilities, as he was away from the Buffs’ base. Sanders has been recuperating at his home in Texas, where his sons, Deion Sanders Jr. and Shilo Sanders, have been assisting with his care.

Although there is no official timeline for his return to full coaching duties, Colorado’s program remains active. Strength coach Andreu Swasey has been leading team workouts in Sanders’ absence, preparing the Buffaloes for their season opener on August 29 against Georgia Tech.
