“I’m Still Going Through Something”: Deion Sanders Gets Real About Health Struggles Post Long Hiatus As Colorado HC

Colorado head football coach Deion Sanders has finally broken his silence on the mysterious health issue that has kept him largely out of the public eye this offseason.

In a candid video on his son Deion Jr.’s YouTube channel, the Hall of Fame coach admitted that he is still combating the health issues, which has left him out of the public eye.

“You know I’m still going through something,” Sanders told his children Shelomi and Deion Jr. during what appeared to be a family workout session. “I’m not all the way recovered.” (1:05)

Deion Sanders’ statement comes on the heels of months of speculation regarding his health condition. The 57-year-old is typically constant on social media and at public events; however, this summer, he has been absent from some major moments.

The footage has Sanders doing a number of physical activities, including an ice bath, shooting baskets, and finishing what he referred to as a 1.3-mile “run-walk” with daughter Shelomi.

“He did good,” Shelomi commented after their exercise session, to which Sanders responded with visible pride: “I’m proud. We’re getting better, though, right?” (11:35)

Deion Sanders Excited To Return After Recovering From Health Issues

Deion Sanders’ health struggles have forced him to miss several significant events this offseason. Most notably, he was absent from Travis Hunter’s wedding.

Hunter, Sanders’ former star player and Heisman Trophy winner, represented one of the coach’s greatest success stories at Colorado. The coach also skipped a scheduled public speaking engagement and Colorado’s annual youth and high school football camps.

In May, he provided perhaps his most revealing comment about his condition, stating that what he was dealing with was “at a whole other level.” He also mentioned experiencing significant fatigue and losing 14 pounds during his recovery process.

By June, Sanders attempted to reassure fans with an update saying,

“I can assure you all that everything is OKAY and will continue to be so. I’m excited to get back to Colorado to be at home with my staff, team & all associated to our program.”

At Big 12 media days, Sanders showed flashes of his old confrontational style when pressed about his health.

“I’m already back,” he told ESPN reporters. “I’m here today. I’m handling my responsibilities. So I look forward to it. I can’t wait. You’ve got to understand, some of the young [players] I haven’t even met yet. I’m so excited about that.”

Deion Sanders’ recent social media appearances seem to paint a jolly picture of his health. However, it seems like Sanders may provide more details about his health situation in the days to come.
