Deion Sanders Reveals Impact Of Delaware Game On Joe Flacco-Shedeur Sanders Dynamic Ahead Of Week 2 Matchup

The Cleveland Browns are gearing up for their season opener on Sunday in the NFL, but there are two quarterbacks, Joe Flacco and Shedeur Sanders, with an eye on a Saturday college game. A friendly bet has added some intrigue to their quarterback room.

Sanders’ father, Colorado coach Deion Sanders, announced the bet today on the Colorado Football Coaches Show. The wager focuses on the matchup of Flacco’s alma mater, Delaware, and Shedeur’s former school, Colorado, which will be playing host to the Blue Hens.

“I’m not supposed to say this, but I will. Joe and Shedeur have something on this game,” Coach Sanders confirmed.

While he wouldn’t disclose any details about the bet’s stakes, the legendary coach confirmed one existed, and indicated both Browns quarterbacks would be watching the game. According to reports, they have been lightly trash-talking one another leading up to the matchup.

The odds are highly against Flacco’s team, i.e., the Colorado Buffaloes are 23.5-point favorites to win home games. Still, Flacco feels enough about Delaware to wager with his young teammate.

Flacco Reflects on Shedeur Sanders’ First NFL Opportunity

Flacco is now beginning his 18th season in the NFL. He is the starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns for 2025. Flacco has willingly accepted his role as a mentor to the younger quarterbacks on the team, Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel, a role he actively embraced during training camp and now, preseason.

When the moment came for Sanders to have his first opportunity in the NFL, as Flacco watched him take the field in a preseason game Flacco was happy for him, and he spoke about the excitement of getting to watch the rookie play.

“Oh, it’ll be interesting. I think we’ll all be sitting there watching and be excited for football to be going real time. And I think he’s probably excited about that too,” Flacco stated.

“I mean, your first time to go in the NFL, I remember mine. I didn’t get to play until the last two minutes of the game, but it’s something that he’ll remember forever. Most of us have dreamt about this moment since were five, six, seven, eight-years old. So, for him to get a chance to go out there and actually take the field, even though it’s preseason we’re all going to be on the sidelines enjoying it”, Flacco further elaborated.

Shedeur would start the season as the third QB for the Browns. He would be inactive for the Week 1, home-game against the Cincinnati Bengals, however, he was able to dress as the emergency third-string QB.

The light-hearted bet comes after a tough week for the Sanders family. Last week, Colorado lost their Week 1 game to Georgia Tech, and Shedeur’s brother, Shilo Sanders, was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

While Flacco is the starting quarterback, both Sanders and Gabriel are expected to get action this season. It will be interesting to see which of the rookie’s will get the nod the most playing time this season.
