Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders loves the game of football, and that’s why he remains a close part of it even after retirement. Despite the health struggles earlier this year, combined with a forgettable 2025 season, the Pro Football Hall of Famer’s love for the game hasn’t changed a bit.
In a recent press conference, a reporter asked if Sanders was considering taking off from football, given his health concerns. Sanders made his feelings known about his love for the game.
“Football is not my business,” Sanders said. “Football is my passion, man. Football is like my lady, she’s like my wife. I love her, I really do. So it’s more than business to me. Business is the other stuff, that’s business. This right here, my heart is in it.”
When asked if his health struggle had something to do with Colorado’s dismal 3-6 record so far this season, Sanders answered:
“Yeah, but that ain’t got nothing to do with the winning or losing column. No. I’m not playing. I wish to God I couldm especially at corner right now; we’re short. I wish I could play some corner right now. No, I mean, I’ve got to do a better job with this whole thing. That’s on me.”

Deion Sanders Shares Insights on Personnel Shake-up and Accountability
The Buffaloes are shaken up after two consecutive blowout losses, 53-7 to the Utah Utes and 52-17 to the Arizona Wildcats, at home. Deion Sanders believes the strong practice sessions have not been translated into games.
“If I knew what was wrong, I wouldn’t have allowed it to happen,” Sanders said on Saturday after the loss to Arizona.
The back-to-back terrible losses have prompted Deion Sanders to take severe action against the program’s offensive coordinator. Just like how Coach Prime demoted Sean Lewis in 2023, Pat Shurmur has also received the same treatment. USA Today’s Brent Schrotenboer reported the development in his report, writing:
“Colorado football coach Deion Sanders stripped play-calling duties from offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur after the Buffaloes lost at Utah Oct. 25, demoting him to quarterbacks coach before the team got beat again last week against Arizona, a person with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports.
Schrotenboer said that Colorado tight ends coach and passing game coordinator Brett Bartolone has taken over Shurmur since the Utah game.
It remains to be seen if the change in personnel brings a change in result as the Buffaloes will need to win all three of their remaining games to stay bowl eligible.
