Former NFL tight end and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Shannon Sharpe recently praised Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders. While appearing on the popular “Nightcap” podcast alongside former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson, Sharpe highlighted how impressive Coach Prime’s dual-threat abilities were and still are.

Shannon Sharpe’s Praise of Deion Sanders
Sanders played both professional football and baseball during his playing days. Though he is more known for his football career, as he is widely regarded as one of the greatest defensive players of all time, Sanders also boasted a successful baseball career, including playing in the World Series on one occasion.
Sharpe praised Sanders’ elite abilities in both sports and outlined how difficult it was to play both football and baseball professionally.
“Y’all do realize that Deion played baseball. Do you know how hard it is to hit a baseball? And Deion wasn’t just no guy. Go back to the World Series and check his batting average. He didn’t play every single snap of offense and defense. You’re talking about one of the greatest athletes to have ever played. He played two sports professionally.
“We see a lot of guys play two sports collegiately. We’ve seen many guys play many sports in high school but how many guys you see play two sports professionally and be great,” Sharpe stated.
Deion Sanders’ NFL and MLB Career
Sanders had a storied career in the National Football League and is a Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee. He has 53 career interceptions, nine of which were returned for touchdowns. Coach Prime is a two-time Super Bowl champion, a Defensive Player of the Year Award winner, and a six-time First Team All-Pro.
In Major League Baseball, Sanders has a career batting average of .263, 39 home runs (HR), and 168 runs batted in (RBIs).

In addition, he competed in the World Series as a member of the Atlanta Braves, playing a key role in their playoff success that season. During that postseason stretch, Sanders scored 8-20, scoring four runs.
As these statistics and Sharpe’s recent comments demonstrate, Sanders is one of the greatest dual-threat athletes of all time.
