Deion Sanders’ Divorce Anniversary Joke Draws Mixed Reactions From Fans: “Fraud in Every Way” “Let’s Go Prime!”

Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur made some lighthearted fun about their respective divorce and marriage while addressing players in what appears to be an auditorium.

In a video posted by MLFootball, Shurmur told players:

“Sunday was my 35th wedding anniversary.”

    Hearing this, Sanders responded:

“Sunday was my celebration of my second divorce.”

Players in the room erupted in laughter. Meanwhile, on social media, while many found the moment lighthearted, others saw it as inappropriate coming from a man known for openly sharing his Christian faith.

@AmbitionPA_ceo (Robert L Ray) wrote: “He wouldn’t have said that out loud if his sons were still on the team. SMH.”

@Billyg320 (Billy g) added: “Ex wife got his big toe in the divorce.”

@RightSideUp5000 (Right1) commented: “Deion is a fraud in every way possible.” (also tagging @WhitlockJason)

@morsi12hotmail1 (Cayeman) said: “Let’s go Prime!”

@ZayZamZak (Zach P.) wrote: “If you know the story you definitely happy for him.”

@Mariann72754370 (Marianne) took a sarcastic jab: “Some Christian.”

One fan questioned directly: “I thought @DeionSanders is a Christian? Bragging about divorce in front of the young men he’s supposed to be leading and setting a good example for?”

Colorado’s Deion Sanders and Pat Shurmur’s marriage history

Deion Sanders was married twice, but both marriages failed after some time. He married Carolyne Chambers and became a father to two children, Deion Sanders Jr. and Deiondra Sanders. Their marriage lasted almost close to a decade as the two got divorced in 1998.

The divorce Deion was referring to in front of his children was with his second wife, Pilar Sanders. One year after parting ways with Chambers, Deion tied the knot with Pilar and became a father to three children: Shilo, Shedeur, and Shelomi Sanders.

In 2012, things started to get messy with a domestic abuse filed, but it was later ruled that no domestic violence occurred. A bitter custody battle followed in 2013: Deion was awarded sole custody of their two sons but joint custody of their daughter. Finally, the two got divorced in 2015.

Meanwhile, Pat Shurmur remains married to his wife Jennifer, whom he met at Michigan State University. He is currently a father of four children.
