‘I Was Non-Apologetic, Brash’ – Deion Sanders Once Embraced the Same Confidence Shedeur Is Now Criticized For

Shedeur Sanders has been the subject of much criticism leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft. Some say his confidence borders on arrogance. But for those familiar with his father, Deion Sanders, this is nothing new. In fact, Coach Prime himself faced similar criticism for his self-assured demeanor during his time. The Hall of Famer has now come to his son’s defense, emphasizing that confidence has always been a key ingredient in their success.

Deion Sanders Shares He Too Was ‘Brash’ and Confident as His Son Shedeur Sanders

During a recent episode of The Rich Eisen Show, Coach Sanders pointed out that he was once also a hot-blooded young man. “I was non-apologetic, was brash,” Sanders said. “I was going to be me, and I felt like Atlanta would at least understand me.” This unwavering self-belief shaped his career, helping him become a two-time Super Bowl champion and Hall of Famer.

Sanders, much like his father, exudes confidence. At the 2025 NFL Combine, he chose not to participate in on-field workouts but engaged with the media and teams in interviews. His comments, while bold, were also professional. “If you’re not trying to change the franchise or the culture, don’t get me,” he stated.

Despite the criticism, many analysts see the younger Sanders’ approach as an asset for any team he is in.

Rich Eisen compared him to his father, noting that while his son shares his confidence, he also brings a level of professionalism that should be valued. “He does share his dad’s sense of self and confidence, but also a sense of professionalism,” according to Eisen.

NFL analyst Mark Schlereth also defended the Colorado quarterback, noting that most top quarterbacks possess a level of arrogance. “Show me a quarterback who’s not arrogant,” he challenged. He shared that Sanders’ accuracy, quick decision-making, and deep understanding of defenses—qualities that make him a legitimate top-draft prospect.

As Sanders prepares for the NFL, his critics will remain. But as history has shown with Coach Prime, confidence alone doesn’t define success—work ethic and performance do.

If the Colorado quarterback follows in his father’s footsteps, he may soon prove that confidence isn’t a flaw for the Sanders family; it is a main ingredient in their success recipe.
