Deion Sanders is staying at Colorado for the long term. Coach Prime isn’t giving up anytime soon, and bladder cancer won’t stop him. Recently, there were rumors that Sanders might have to step down from the head coach position at Boulder due to health issues. It was based on Deion Sanders’ lengthy absence from the program due to an unknown health issue at the time.
On Monday, it was revealed that Deion Sanders had been recovering from cancer and that he had a bladder tumor removal surgery during the spring. However, if anyone thought this would stop him, think again.
In a video published through the school’s X account, Coach Prime expressed his desire to remain with the program in the long run. He also gave some powerful reasoning for keeping up his work:
“Recruits, recruits, recruits. Yeah, it’s me. Yes, me. I ain’t going nowhere, still here. You know why? I’m waiting on you. Waiting on mom, waiting on pops, waiting on unc. I’m waiting on grandad, I’m waiting on whoever is handling things. I’m waiting on you.”
“Stop believing them lies, stop believing them lies. They going to talk, because that’s all they know how to do. But guess what? God got me, baby! And I want you. Aha, that’s right,” he added.

Deion Sanders for men regarding cancer and testing
Deion Sanders knows he was lucky to have his cancer discovered at an early stage, but he also knows his life has changed forever. He spoke about this during his Monday press conference to reveal his condition:
“I’m still dealing with going to the bathroom. It’s a whole life change,” he said. “I’m gonna be transparent. I can’t pee like I used to pee. It’s totally different. I’m making a joke out of it, but it’s real. So if you see a port-a-potty on the sideline, it’s real. I’m just telling you right now, you’re gonna see it.” (6:50)
Sanders also urged males to take the threat of cancer seriously and to get routinely checked with a physician:
“Men, everybody, get checked out, because if it wasn’t for me getting tested for something else, they wouldn’t have stumbled upon this,” he said. “Especially African American men, we don’t like going to the doctors. We don’t like nothing to do with a doctor.” (5:38)
According to the National Cancer Institute, the five-year survival rate for localized bladder cancer (Like the one Deion Sanders had) is 71%. If it spreads beyond the bladder, that drops to 38%. If it metastasizes, it drops further down to 8%. Early diagnosis is key to saving lives.
