Just weeks before Nike releases the highly coveted Air Diamond Turf “Must Be The Money” sneaker commemorating Deion Sanders’ illustrious career, his son Shilo is at the center of a controversy in the NFL.
Shilo threw a punch that got him ejected from a Tampa Bay preseason game against Buffalo. The undrafted safety punched Bills tight end Zach Davidson after being blocked well after the whistle, which forced him to earn immediate ejection from the game.
Meanwhile, Coach Prime’s new business venture with Nike represents more than just yet another retro release. Their partnership with the $60 million worth coach embraces a unique status as a sports figure and cultural figure, influenced by Sanders’ hip hop career, as well as based in part on Sanders’ 1994 rap album affirming that athletes could crossover to entertainment.
The new Diamond Turf includes light blue and gold accents on top of tumbled white leather. The design team from Nike put dollar sign graphics on the insoles, creating a visual reference to Sanders’ musical career that helped build his Prime Time persona off the field but also away from the baseball diamond.

The original Diamond Turf is iconic because it signifies Sanders’ legacy of being a dual-sport superstar while also representing his outgoing and flashy personality. This version keeps the performance elements like the signature midfoot strap and the stacked layers of mesh, but adds in premium materials to attract collectors and casual wearers at the same time.
Meanwhile, Shilo Sanders is facing Tuesday’s cutdown with the knowledge that his preseason blunder could cost him the opportunity to play in the NFL. He is credited with four tackles and one quarterback hit over three games so far.
