Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has dealt with a plethora of health issues in recent years. At the beginning of June, he dealt with a new problem that forced him to travel to Texas and miss the Buffaloes’ annual summer camps. While that was disappointing for the players in Colorado, most people are simply worried about Sanders and his health going forward.
Fortunately, it appears that Coach Prime is getting close to returning to work in Colorado. The Big 12 media days will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, and Sanders appears likely to attend. Several people close to Sanders have indicated that his health is improving. In an interview, former NFL player Adam Jones did with BetOnline this week, he spoke about visiting Sanders and his health.
“Deion’s doing good,” Jones said. “I think he got another week at home before they get started. He’ll be there. He’ll be ready to go.”

Jones is not the only person to indicate that Sanders’ health is improving. In the “Life and Football” podcast on Friday, analyst Mike Figg said that Coach Prime will appear at the Big 12 media days.
“They say Coach Prime is going to Big 12 media day, and he is going to be the last coach to get interviewed,” Figg said (1:43). “But it makes sense that he goes because he is right there. They say it ain’t but a few minutes to a few hours. So he’s right there. It’s easy for him to go. It ain’t a problem for him to slide over there.”
Deion Sanders Has Dealt with Health Issues for Several Years
Health issues are not new for Deion Sanders. He has been forced to handle many of them since the start of his coaching career. Most notably, Sanders was forced to have two of his toes on his left foot amputated in 2022 because of blood clots. In 2023, he missed Pac-12 media day because of a procedure he underwent to relieve clots in both of his legs. Sanders has not indicated whether his current health issues are related to those he dealt with in recent years.
Regardless, it appears that Sanders is approaching a return to full-time coaching duties. That is good news for the Buffaloes as they are set to have a challenging season. With stars Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders starting their NFL careers, it will be more challenging for the Buffaloes to stay competitive in the Big 12.
