One of the biggest storylines in college football this offseason was the fall of former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Heading into the draft, Sanders was projected to be a first-round pick and, at worst, was thought of as a Day 2 selection. Those projections went out the window as Sanders wasn’t selected until the fifth round. There’s been speculation on why Sanders fell, with some analysts suspecting it was due to non-football related reasons, and it would appear that Shedeur’s father, Deion Sanders, agrees.
Deion Sanders Reacts to Ryan Clark’s Take on Why Shedeur Sanders Fell in the 2025 NFL Draft
In a rant on “The Pivot” podcast, Ryan Clark spoke about Shedeur Sanders’ slide in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Clark felt that the fall was due to more character-related speculation rather than Shedeur’s on-field play, saying, “If you evaluate him a certain way, then that’s just the evaluation. It was the chatter, it was the conversation around him. So many things about Shedeur during the draft process were character, character, character, personality, personality, personality.”
Deion Sanders admitted he was “hurt”, by all of the negative talk surrounding Sheduer before the draft… and I get it!
The talk was slick & the agenda was obvious. They slandered his name with unprovable, but also irrefutable statements. What was Deion to do?

There’s no secret that Deion Sanders has a big personality, and as Clark points out, Prime Time himself refused to interview with some teams during his own draft process, as he knew he was going to be gone long before those teams were selecting.
Clark went on to explain that Deion might be feeling responsible for Shedeur slide saying “I feel like Deion’s hurt also comes from him always being able to take of his kids as a father, and having a little of feeling that some of this because of me and I can’t take it away from him.”
Deion Sanders indicated that he did feel that way, as he replied to Clark’s tweet with a four-word response: “Amen my brother Amen.”
While the real reason Sheduer fell out of the first round was likely talent-related, it is easy to see how the stigma around the prime-time attitude could have caused Sheduer to fall out of Day 2 and deep into Day 3.

Whatever the actual reason for Sheduer’s fall is, it’s clear that Deion feels some responsibility over the way his son’s name was talked about during the 2025 NFL Draft.
