The 5 Best Defensive Playbooks for EA College Football 26

    4-2-5 Defense

The 4-25 defense is a nod to the 4-4 defense , with some 3-3-5 defense mixed in. The two defensive plays merged to form the 4-2-5 defense, which features five defensive backs from the 3-3-5 and a six-man box from the 4-3 defense. This applies pressure to opponents and is very popular in actual football today.

    3-4 Defense

This defensive play was popularized by coaching legend Bill Belichick, who has now left the NFL for the NCAA, now coaching North Carolina. This play has won him Super Bowls, and it two “outside linebackers” to make things difficult for the opponents’ offensive line and it allows defenders to “mirror” their opponents in a way. However, this play needs big offensive linemen who have to control two gaps in the offense.

    4-3 Defense

This defensive play is still very much popular, with Dallas Cowboys’ Tom Landry making it popular during his time as the New York Giants’ defensive coordinator. It uses smaller and more athletic players than usual defensive plays and is good against teams who like to run. However, this is very player-specific, with bigger and slower linebackers often struggling with this play.

    3-3-5 Defense

Just like the 4-3 Defense, the 3-3-5 Defense also specifically relies on smaller and more athletic players, rather than big and powerful linemen. Its name comes from three defensive linemen, three linebackers, and five defensive backs to exert some heavy pressure on the opponent’s offensive line.

It is considered a high-risk, high-reward defensive play as the edges in this play are quite vulnerable, but it could turn the tide of the game pretty easily.

    3-2-6 Defense

This defense was the brainchild of Iowa State defensive coordinator Jon Heacock, and more or less has a six-man secondary to defend the pass. It usually replaces the outside linebackers with linebacker-safety hybrids, with some schools using it to spread their formations that force the bigger and stronger defenders to cover the faster and smaller, more athletic players.
