Dave Portnoy Boldly Advocates for $11,000,000 HC To Replace Sherrone Moore at Michigan

It’s been nearly two weeks since Michigan fired Sherrone Moore for cause. Biff Poggi was named the interim head coach for the program amid the drama that unfolded in the days after Moore was fired.

Right now, Michigan is in a difficult spot. A program without a head coach is deemed directionless, and Dave Portnoy, a longtime Michigan fan, has decided to step in with some advice for his favorite school.

There are several names thrown in the mix for Michigan’s next head coach. While nothing is even close to being finalized yet, Portnoy believes that Mike Elko is the right man for the job with the Wolverines.

The founder of Barstool Sports recently took to X to share a simple message. Considering the kind of influence he has in college football circles, especially in Michigan, he might’ve ignited a spark with the recent post.

“Mike Elko to Michigan,” Portnoy wrote.

Elko has been the head coach for the Texas A&M Aggies since 2024. In November 2025, he signed a six-year extension with the program worth $11 million annually. The contract extension keeps him with the Aggies through 2031.

When Elko signed the extension with Texas, it was seen as a long-term commitment plan from the program. However, the first-round playoff loss against the Miami Hurricanes is bound to put some pressure on Texas.

The Aggies’ offense completely collapsed in a 3-10 loss, and now the extension doesn’t seem to give the same guarantee of a long term job security. Whether Portnoy was onto something when he posted that or it was just a random name drop after a terrible loss, we’ll have to wait and see.

    Sherrone Moore’s Post-Firing Crisis

When Moore lost his job, and it was being reported that he was fired for cause after credible evidence was found that Moore was engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, it seemed like nothing could be worse than that.

Little did we know, it was barely the tip of the iceberg. Within hours of being fired by Michigan, Moore was arrested in Saline, Michigan. He was later booked for an alleged assault in Washtenaw County.

The alleged victim of the assault was the same woman from Michigan staff with whom he had an affair. All hell broke loose on Moore within hours after losing his job.
