“They Are Cowards”: Dave Portnoy Fires Shots At Ryan Day’s Ohio State Ahead Of Clash vs Illinois

Michigan superfan Dave Portnoy is always up for the task when his opinion is asked for Ohio State. Even though the Buckeyes are the defending national champions, Portnoy has no respect for them and he showed it again ahead of Ohio State vs Illinois clash this weekend.

Portnoy was present in Illinois for the Fox Show in the middle of fans standing with a board and a chalk. He start to write down three ways Illinois can take down Ryan Day’s team and with each point, he had a brutal take for the Buckeyes. He started with calling Ohio State “cowards.”

“I’m going to teach these beautiful people how to beat Ohio State,” Portnoy said. “And to be honest, it’s pretty simple. Number one: you got to remember they are cowards. They are cowards. So what that means is if you punch them in the face, they will fall like a tent. They don’t like playing physical football.”

With his second point, Portnoy said Ohio State doesn’t like to play close games. Portnoy added:

“Number two: deep water. What does that mean? They don’t like playing close games. If you get this into the fourth quarter, Ryan Day will pee down his leg. He’ll forget that Jermiah Smith even exists. So get him in deep water.”

His third way was the most hilarious. The Barstool Sports founder suggested Illinois to change their helmets to Michigan colors.

“Number three: change your school colors to maize and blue,” Portnoy said. “Now put the winged helmet on top of the Illinois helmet, because it’s a known fact when they see Michigan coming, they fold. So there are three keys to the game: they’re cowards; get them in deep water; and pretend you’re Michigan.”

Was Dave Portnoy Banned From Ohio State Stadium?

Ahead of the Buckeyes’ 2025 season opener against the Texas Longhorns, reports started to emerge that Dave Portnoy was banned from Ohio State stadium and he won’t be able to do his Big Noon Kickoff broadcast from inside the stadium.

Ohio State’s athletic director Ross Bjork clarified that no ban was imposed. He claimed that it was Fox Sports who declined to have him inside the stadium for their show.

However, before this statement came, Portnoy called out Ohio State for hypocrisy, while adding “stop pointing the finger” and “get tougher.”

Dave Portnoy’s allegiance with Michigan has made him a permanent enemy of Ohio State with the latest barrage.
