Dave Portnoy Highlights Clear Championship Path for Sherrone Moore’s Team As ‘Michigan Humiliates Washington’ in Week 8

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy had plenty to celebrate on Saturday morning, and he made sure everyone knew it. A passionate Michigan fan, Portnoy never misses a chance to praise the Wolverines, and their dominant Week 8 win gave him the perfect reason to sound off online.

Michigan crushed Washington 24–7 in Ann Arbor, a statement win that showcased their physicality on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Bryce Underwood delivered one of his most efficient performances of the season.

Running back Jordan Marshall powered through the Huskies’ defense to lead a balanced attack. The Wolverines’ defense also made life miserable for Washington, forcing multiple turnovers and holding them under 250 total yards.

It was a game that reminded everyone why Michigan remains a national contender, and Portnoy wasted no time boasting about it.

“What a great morning slate!  Michigan humiliates Washington and Vandy humiliates LSU.   THE BALL KNOWER IS BACK!   And by the way if Michigan wins out they are in playoffs and they don’t have anybody tough left on schedule  #goblue #AnchorDown,” Portnoy wrote on X.

Adding to his victory lap, he pointed out Vanderbilt’s surprising win over LSU, another result that helped shape a chaotic college football Saturday. The morning slate went exactly how Portnoy wanted, giving him confidence to declare that “the ball knower” was back in form.

But while Portnoy insisted Michigan has a clear path to the playoffs and “nobody tough left” on their schedule, that part isn’t exactly true. The Wolverines still have to face Ohio State on November 29.

For now, though, Portnoy and other Michigan fans are riding high. The Wolverines look confident again under head coach Sherrone Moore, and their defense has regained its bite.

    Ohio State Banned Dave Portnoy

Portnoy was slated to appear on Big Noon Kickoff for the game between Ohio State and the Texas Longhorns in August 2025 at Ohio Stadium in Columbus. Media reports emerged at the time that Portnoy had been banned from entering the stadium for that broadcast, profoundly tied to his vocal support for Michigan.

Ohio State was barring both Portnoy and the Barstool show from campus access during that major matchup. Those claims sparked controversy because of Portnoy’s history of mocking Ohio State and openly backing Michigan in the rivalry.

“I wasn’t going to say anything. We’ll just go to Week 2. I’m trying to be a good partner, we’re just starting this thing with Fox. Then the story breaks,” Portnoy said in a video. “I feel bad because Fox is in the middle of it.”

The conflict underscored the intensity of the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry and raised questions about how media relationships intersect with fandom and broadcast logistics.
