The Nebraska Cornhuskers landed a big-time transfer portal commitment from wide receiver Dane Key in December.
Key, who left the Kentucky Wildcats and entered the portal back in December, made his first appearance in front of the Nebraska media and gave some insight into what made him want to be a Cornhusker.
Dane Key Explains Why He Transferred to Nebraska
The first college football transfer portal window is one of the most competitive recruiting grounds in all of college athletics. Dane Key was ranked as the 10th best receiver in the portal and was being heavily pursed by many schools.
Nebraska was able to land the wideout who racked up 1,870 yards and 14 touchdowns in his time at Kentucky.
“Dylan (Raiola) was one of the first people to text me when I entered the portal.. Why would I not choose to come be with a really good football player who wants to throw me the ball?”

When asked why he chose the Cornhuskers, Key gave most of the credit to Dylan Raiola, the five-star quarterback who just wrapped up his freshman year with Nebraska.
“Dylan was one of the first people that texted me when I entered the portal… and when I came on my visit, I think Dylan was with me every second of my visit,” Key said in a press conference.
We college football fans are used to hearing how coaches are the ones making the push to land recruitments, but in this case, it would appear that Dylan Raiola was one of the key players in landing Key (pun intended).
Key went on to praise Raiola’s on-field talent.
“Why would I not choose to come be with a really good football player who wants to throw me the ball?” the pass-catcher said.

Head coach Matt Rhule is entering his fourth season with Nebraska and has built a very good roster. If Raiola and Key can find the same chemistry on the field that they’ve seemed to have already built off the field, who knows just how good the Cornhuskers offense can be in 2025?
