Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning has built a strong program since his arrival with the team three seasons ago. He has helped the Ducks reach at least 10 wins in all three seasons with the team. As a result, he is part of the reason the Big Ten has improved in recent years and is now in competition with the SEC as the best conference in college football.
On Wednesday, Dan Lanning sat down for an interview with NBC Sports reporter Nicole Auerbach. He was asked if the Big Ten winning the past two national championships (Michigan and Ohio State) brings him a feeling of pride.
“I think it just shows how competitive this league is,” Dan Lanning said (Timestamp 2:00). “How much talent there is, the coaching that exists in this league. It’s the best conference in college football. I don’t think there’s any doubt about that.”
Auerbach then asked Dan Lanning what he would say to SEC fans who think they have the best conference in college football. He sent a blunt message to SEC fans.
“We have the last two national champions,” Dan Lanning said. “Three of the last four (teams) that competed in the national championship were in the Big Ten. The other was an independent, so I think that speaks volumes.”

Dan Lanning Discusses the Ducks’ Improvements at Training Camp Since Spring Practice
Head coach Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks started training camp on Wednesday as they prepare for the 2025 college football season. One of the things Lanning addressed at his press conference afterwards was the improvements made since spring practice. He admitted that it is a little too early to judge.
“Yeah, probably a little too early,” Lanning said. “You know, today’s more like, knocked the rust off when you come back, and you haven’t practiced in spring. So I do think that there’s a really clear understanding of what we’re trying to execute. Guys are able to do drills the right way.”
“I think a lot of that has to do with preparation and making sure that they’re prepared for a moment when it comes. But ultimately, you know, I think that this was, you know, kind of two separate things, not necessarily growth moments from that spot to this.”
The Oregon Ducks still have plenty of time to shake off the rust. Their season is not scheduled to begin until Aug. 30 against Montana State. The team will be trying to get back into national championship contention after a quarterfinal exit from the College Football Playoff last season.
