Dan Lanning and Oregon are continuing their quest for a national title after failing to win one earlier this year despite being the No. 1 seed. The Ducks would have had a perfect season last year if it were not for that Rose Bowl loss against eventual national champions, the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Lanning sat down with NBC Sports ahead of the new collegiate football season and opened up on several aspects of this year’s version of the Oregon Ducks. He also admitted that the loss to Ohio State is still a very painful memory for him, as it not only robbed them of their perfect season, it also stopped their momentum to the national title. NBC’s Nicole Aurbach asked him how he felt after that loss.
“You just go to bed every night thinking about it and wake up every morning thinking about it. Not a lot of processing. Probably need to see a therapist, you know. It is part of football, right?” answered Dan Lanning. (1:08)
“There’s one team at the end of the year that gets to, you know, celebrate that moment of of finishing it the right way. And you know there’s an end all goal for us. That’s something but it doesn’t discredit the success that we had last year and what kind of team we had and the success our players had,” he ADDED.
For now, Lanning is overseeing training camp for the Oregon Ducks, which is aiming for a national title after getting so close last season.

Dan Lanning Hypes Up Oregon Ducks As They Enter the New 2025 Season
Ahead of the Ducks training camp in Eugene, Dan Lanning spoke with the press during the Oregon Media Day. There, the head coach hyped up his team as they prepare to shake off last year’s disappointment in losing to Ohio State.
“A lot of things to be excited about for this team,” Dan Lanning told reporters. “Certainly thrilled to be back at work. It’s fun to see the guys back in the building. Excited to see about what questions we’re able to answer this fall camp. I know our guys are ready to work.”
Oregon is entering the 2025 season as the Big Ten champions and are ready to seek revenge on Ohio State and finally win that national championship. For now, Lanning stated that this new team is still trying to figure itself out and looking at the things they need to improve on.
