Oregon head coach Dan Lanning landed a major recruiting victory with the pledge of Richard Wesley, a five-star EDGE from Sierra Canyon (Calif.), boosting the Ducks into the top five of the 2026 national rankings.
Despite the hype, Oregon’s hold on Wesley remains uncertain. With official visits confirmed, several powerhouse programs are still pursuing the elite defender. The Ducks must navigate a competitive landscape over the next six months to ensure Wesley signs on National Signing Day.

Despite Commitment, Richard Wesley’s Recruitment Far From Over
Although Richard Wesley pledged to Oregon on May 10, the five-star EDGE out of Sierra Canyon (Calif.) remains one of the most hotly pursued prospects in the 2026 cycle.
Ranked as the No. 14 overall player and the No. 2 EDGE in the class per the 247Sports Composite, Wesley continues to draw serious attention despite being committed. His upcoming official visits suggest the Ducks still have a battle ahead.
Wesley’s first stop is scheduled for Eugene on June 6. He’ll head to Austin two weeks later to visit Texas on June 20. But the most eye-opening news for Oregon fans is his final visit: an Aug. 30 trip to Columbus, where Ohio State will host Texas at The Shoe. Wesley also plans to visit Texas A&M, though that date is still pending.

Oregon’s recruiting victory was initially seen as a significant coup for Lanning, who appeared in Wesley’s viral poolside commitment video. But questions quickly followed. Reports surfaced that Wesley’s family was unaware he was announcing that day, and lingering NIL discussions are still unresolved between the two sides.
On May 27, Oregon insider Max Torres confirmed Wesley’s visit plans, citing a report from On3’s Hayes Fawcett. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound pass rusher told Fawcett:
“They preach Dan Lanning and his background, and the same with Tosh Lupoi. They let me know the Oregon track record, and I have seen that.” He added, “Since the jump, Oregon has been showing me love. I talk to coaches almost every day… I love the feeling there, and I love everything there.”

With 24 offers, Wesley holds significant leverage: he and fellow five-star Kendre Harrison headline Oregon’s top-10 2026 class. Still, with schools like Texas and Ohio State circling, Oregon’s hold is far from secure.
