Quarterback Russell Wilson has had a potentially Hall of Fame-level career. However, he is no longer the star he was during his time with the Seattle Seahawks. As a member of the New York Giants, fans were not sure how he would do this year. He got the start in the first game of the season against QB Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders.
However, Wilson struggled early on, only completing nine passes for 69 yards in the first half. This led to the Commanders jumping out to a 14-3 lead at halftime. With 2025 first round pick QB Jaxson Dart sitting on the sideline, it led to a lot of frustration in the Giants fan base.

Fans started to call for head coach Brian Daboll to bench Russell Wilson on X during the game.
“Bench Russell Wilson, he’s afraid to turn it loose!!!” one fan wrote.
“Jaxson Dart should be the QB for the Giants there’s no reason for him not to be,” one fan commented.
“We need Jaxson Dart as QB 1,” one fan added.
Fans continued to react in the comments.
“Jaxson Dart will be starting by October. Don’t know why anyone was still humoring this Russ thing,” one fan wrote.
“Fire Mike McDaniel at the half. Bench Russell Wilson at the half,” one fan commented.
“BENCH RUSSELL WILSON DUDE,” one fan added.

Jaxson Dart Is the Backup if HC Brian Daboll Decides To Bench Russell Wilson
QB Russell Wilson earned the starting job out of camp. This was not a surprise given his experience as a starter throughout his career. While fans did not have an issue with this, many are hoping that he does not have a long leash. If he continues to perform poorly, fans will quickly start to call for Jaxson Dart to start.
Dart is currently in the backup role after getting selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft. Dart had a stellar season last year with the Ole Miss Rebels. Now, there are many Giants fans who believe he can be the franchise savior at the quarterback position. There is a good chance he will get an opportunity to test himself at the NFL level this season.
