The Colorado Buffaloes are one of the top teams undergoing quite the roster change this year. With Travis Hunter, Jimmy Horn Jr., and LaJohntay Wester all picked in the 2025 NFL Draft, who is next in line to try to replace some of the top receivers in college football today?
Colorado also notably lost their starting quarterback, as Shedeur Sanders slipped to the fifth round before being picked up by the Cleveland Browns. Colorado Faces WR Overhaul After Three Buffs Selected in Draft
The Colorado Buffaloes, led by Coach Prime, are looking for new wide receivers to step in after sending their top three to the NFL Draft. Can a team that arguably has been one of the best wide receiver colleges in 2024 maintain its WR powerhouse status in 2025?
Perhaps the hardest to replace will be 2024 Heisman winner Travis Hunter. He was tremendous on both the offensive side of the ball, and the defensive side. Hunter was the team’s top wide receiver and also their top cornerback in all of 2024. So, who could replace a player like Hunter and fill those very big shoes?
Regarding the wide receiver position, Omarion Miller will arguably be Colorado’s biggest receiver threat in the 2025 NFL season, if he can stay healthy.
His 2024 season ended in early October against Kansas State during a game in which he had eight catches for 145 yards. Miller will look to remain healthy and have a much increased role in 2025.
As for the cornerback spot, Hunter will most likely be replaced by DJ McKinney. McKinney started opposite Hunter last season and should be among the best corners in the Big 12 this season.
Jimmy Horn Jr. and LaJohntay Wester were both taken in the sixth round. Horn Jr. is poised to be the NFL’s next real underdog story.

They were arguably the Buffaloes’ second and third-best receivers behind Hunter in the 2024 season. Colorado will also need a couple of players to step up to replace them.
Some freshmen, like Tagert Bardin, Ronald Coleman, or even Gavin Marsh, could see increased roles getting behind Miller. Miller is slated to be the top receiver for Colorado in the 2025 season and could be in for a breakout year, as long as he’s able to stay healthy.
